Ronchey, S. Indagini ermeneutiche e critico-testuali sulla Cronografia di Psello. (Studi Storici, 152). Rome: Istituto Storico Italiano per il Medio Evo, 1985.
For the first time in this study, Ronchey gives a partial account of her extensive research on Michael Psellos’ work. Between 1980 and 1984, her aim was primarily to provide an Italian translation of the Chronographia, commissioned by the Fondazione Valla. However, during these years, systematic textual analysis went hand in hand with strictly hermeneutic analysis. From this investigation into Psellos’ work emerged an unwieldy volume of work, a small amount of which found a place in the critical apparatus of afore-mentioned Valla edition of the Chronographia (Imperatori di Bisanzio), critical text by S. Impellizzeri, translation by S. Ronchey, 2 vols., Milan 1984). This sample features twenty-three philological conjectures, which were in some cases included in the text, and in other cases mentioned in the apparatus. Ten of these conjectures are discussed in the first part of this work (“Contributo alla constitutio textus della Cronografia di Psello”) and one in the second (“Sulla presunta tripartizione del senato a Bisanzio. Critica d'un passo della Cronografia di Psello”).
